Yulia Brodskaya is an illustrator and graphic designer originating from Russia. She makes these amazing Papergraphic images that are absolutely beautiful. It makes me think I should have taken illustration and fused in the typography the way she does. It’s just awesome.

bringing design to life

Kerstin found this amazing project on Yatzer, an amazing design blog that I am going to add to my ongoing list. Created by Shi Yuan, this wallpaper grows flowers as it reacts to heat. He has also created a painting that reacts when you touch it, and a daily calendar that fades away during the day. Working with the idea of how decoration can have new meaning is genius.

I would love this in my house. How beautiful would that be to watch flowers grow on your walls?

This summer I really want to make fresh salsa and jams. I find this label design to be fantastic for just that. It reminds me of those old punch label machines with the sticky back. It’s from Company, who does AMAZING design in London (of course). “We created a label for each ingredient (defined by the ingredient colour) and months of the year, to reflect the fact that recipes and ingredients change with the seasons.” Simple and effective design that makes me smile.

make type

check out this “sexy, bold and experimental typography” from smashing magazine. it makes me want to go back to school and be a better design student. i guess i’ll just have to be one now…

of course one of my favorite examples is

make

from The Make Lounge, a craft workshop in London.

make color

the type is so reflective [of their business], simple and effective.

make web

and their website follows the same style.

how fun would it be to start something like this? i always hear other people saying how they have no experience with art, but they love it and wish they did. it’s basically an afterschool (or afterwork) program for adults who want to learn some sweet crafts. a few years from now i may have to ask all my crafty friends to leave their jobs and do this with me.
