this may be the best mermaid sighting EVER. or should i say “merman” sighting. my best friend from high school (kerstin) and i graduated from towson high in 2003 with olympic swimmer michael phelps. she sent me this picture as a mermaid sighting:
photographer annie leibovitz is creating disney related scenes using celebrities. you can read about it and see more amazing pictures on the disney blog.
just as a side story, you may find it surprising that michael phelps was in my swim class at meadowbrook when we were 5 years old. they asked me to be on the swim team, and i told my mom i didn’t want to do it. obviously he said yes, and maybe i should have too.
I have been asked by several people now if I have been to the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. It’s the kick-off parade off the summer and I definitely want to go. However, this year it’s probably not going to happen. But I can put my thinking cap on for some great costume to make for next year. So who wants to dress up like a mermaid and go on an adventure?

so, what does mermade mean? it all begins with my collection of mermaid art. i started collecting mermaid themed sculptures, paintings, even hooks and ornaments when i was in high school. from there, it just seemed like the right direction to go in when starting my own design business; mermade. it’s a fusion of my last name [merrick] and my love for the handmade. so there you have it.
so, find me some mermaids! i will post your mermaid art sightings right here on my blog. to get things going, here is one i received from my friend greg:
